Large Intestine, Kidney, Gall Bladder, and …?

posted in: JSJ Study 2

So, I was just thinking the other day about something. Of the twelve-fold Function Energy, Large Intestine is responsible for disposing of the solid waste, Kidney expells any impurities in liquid form, and Gall Bladder takes care of the gases in the body. Large Intestine and Kidney peak at 6 am and pm, respectively. Taken together with Gall Bladder’s peak of 12 midnight, they form the three vertices of a square.

My symmetry-loving mind immediately spotted something missing. What happens at the fourth vortex of 12 noon? Could it be that we’re missing on a cleansing function of Heart Function Energy? And if yes, cleansing of what?

All these four correspond to the fixed mode of each element: earth, fire, water, and air. So, whatever Heart is cleansing, it must be of a fiery nature. Could it be a purification of our desires? A purging of our energetic body from invaders? Or, perhaps, I need to leave it just at that: Heart gets rid of any waste of fiery nature.

    Interesting thoughts as always.

Here is what the TCM has to say about the heart:
