A Boost of Energy

I was feeling down the dumps. I slept badly at night, felt sluggish throughout the day, and didn’t feel like doing anything at all. So, I decided to harmonize my Spleen Function Energy today. I plopped myself on the bed – on my back, knees bent, feet square on the bed – and played quiet music while going through the steps of the harmonizing sequence. After the 4th song (each about 3-5 minutes), the room appeared lighter despite the heavy overcast outside. Lightness as a feeling and sight settled over me. It felt good.

A harmonious flow of the Spleen Function Energy, we learn in our basic 5-Day JSJ seminars, gives us a boost of energy and hence of our immunity. It helps run-down conditions when we feel exhausted after prolonged illness or work. It lifts our spirits and brings sunshine to life.

After many months of pandemics, political and civil turmoil, economic downturns, social isolation, and uniquely individual dramas, I would imagine not many of us will refuse the gift of harmonized Spleen Function Energy. Here is how to receive it.

Left Side

  1. Place the right hand on the coccyx and the left on the Left SEL 5 inner ankle).*
  2. Place the left hand on the Right SEL 14 (bottom of the ribcage)
  3. Remove the right hand from the coccyx and place it on the Left SEL 13 (mid-chest area)
  4. Place the right hand finally on the Right SEL 22 (clavicle)

Right Side

  1. Place the left hand on the coccyx and the right on the Right SEL 5 (inner ankle).*
  2. Remove the right hand from the ankle and place it on the Left SEL 14 (bottom of the ribcage).
  3. Remove the left hand from the coccyx and place it on the Right SEL 13 (mid-chest).
  4. Place the left hand finally on the Left SEL 22 (clavicle).

*If SEL 5 is hard to reach, you can place your hand on the inner knee at SEL 1 or simply on the public bone.

This sequence, albeit with different names, is given not only in our Text 2 on page 17, but also in Mary Burmeister’s Self Help Books (SH1, p.43), and Alice Burmeister’s The Touch of Healing (TH, p. 135).

Be still and let the fears go.
You are provided with nourishment and love
So that you may find contentment
Wherever you are!

Thank you, I really needed this, very comforting and cheering. I have not been sleeping well for a couple of weeks now and have been practicing many JSJ sequences. My body seems to prefer them to sleep. This is definitely going to be a regular addition to my list of favourites. I found myself doing the lung flow instinctively the other day, do you find your hands just want to be on one or two SEL’s without you having to decide where to put them?

Tina, it’s interesting that you are bringing up Lung FE. I too found myself going to Lung the other day. Only, I tend to be more in my head – so I don’t feel it with my hands. When the circulation harmonizes, I frequently feel it in my feet, though. But otherwise, I usually glean my flows from numeric patterns. And, I am still learning to trust my intuition – I tend to dismiss or doubt it – an effect of several decades of formal training in the western sciences…

It is interesting that we have both been drawn to the Lung flow, perhaps we feel the need to strengthen this going into the winter. I can understand how having been trained in Western scientific thinking makes you doubt your intuition, I have ignored mine far too many times in the past and always regretted it. I have a background in horticulture but retrained as a reflexologist because of health issues. It sounds completely woo but has never ceased to amaze me how much information comes through people’s feet into my hands. I am now a Reiki Master and find energy based healing incredibly powerful. I live in the UK and it was due to a client that I first came across Jin Shin several years ago, it is hardly known here. Unfortunately I didn’t have the time or energy to pursue it then and there wasn’t very much information available either. Lock down spurred me into learning the SEL’s and starting my daily practice. I have now taken your course which was very helpful and look forward to continuing to learn more about this fascinating art from your blog and hopefully one of the five day courses sometime next year.

Birds of a feather, my friend! Birds of a feather. Feel free to email me with questions if you have any. I love talking about Jin Shin Jyutsu – it is one modality that appears to attract those of us who straddle both sides of the brain:))))

          Best,
          Tatiana
